Workshop Overview.
Join Andy for a two day workshop to learn about Crystalline Glazes, Throwing with Porcelain and Design Philosophies. The workshop will be of interest to beginners as well as advanced potters. Plus, there will be an opportunity to crystalline glaze your own work! Each Day will include a slide show presentation with video segments followed by a small break and live demonstrations with plenty of time for questions and (hopefully) answers.
Day 1
Part 1: Glazing and Presentation on Glazing: 2h, 30m
Day One will kick off with Andy revealing two crystalline glazes that he has brought and assisting students with glazing their two bisque items. These will immediately be loaded into the kiln and started.
Afterwards, Andy will provide a presentation on Crystalline Glazes, his recipes, firing schedule and tips. Topics like food safety, how to prevent glaze running, acid etching, crazing and consistent firings will all be covered.
30 Minute Break
Part 2: Throwing Demonstration, 2h, 30m
Andy will throw a mug, pitcher, teapot, spout and lid on the wheel. He will discuss the challenges of working with porcelain and share what he has learned. Throwing thin, getting heigh and avoiding S-cracks will be covered.
Day 2
Part 3: Presentation on Design Philosophies: 2h, 30m
DayTwo will begiin with a presentation on design principles and key elements on porcelain and glazing that weren’t covered earlier. It will include form, surface and function. It will include guidelines you can follow to make aesthetic decisions and find direction in your artistic pursuits.
30 Minute Break
Part 2: Trimming and Attachments Demonstration, 2h, 30m
Andy will trim his mug, pitcher, teapot and lod. Then he will pull handles and put them all together. During the demonstration, there will be further discussion about working with porcelain, formal elements and function. The demonstration will end with the unloading of the kiln. (Which will require a bit of finesse to cool it down in time).

$1,200 plus Travel and Accomodation costs for 12 participants or less.
